The Bruce Ford Community Center has served the children in the 79107 zip code since 1999. Parents of participating children are encouraged to volunteer five hours per month in an activity that directly affects their child.
A key component of the center is its after-school program, which provides mentoring, social skills, character development, recreational activities, tutoring and supervision in a safe environment. The after-school program is held at the center Marrs Street location at Robert E. Lee Elementary School and Whittier Elementary.
In addition to the after-school program, a summer day camp provides arts and crafts, recreation and enrichment activities in collaboration with other social service agencies, businesses and organizations. The 79107 Advisory Board oversees additional funding provided by a grant from the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.
The programs at the Bruce Ford Community Center are provided at no cost to the families. Community volunteers are an integral component of all programs at the community center.
