A Piece of History Donated to Buckner Children’s Home

DALLAS-- An important donation was made to the Buckner Children’s Home campus May 3 as Joy Little and Barbara Jones brought a piece of history back to Buckner with their family book, “History of the Beddoe Family.”

Father R.C. Buckner founded Buckner Orphans Home in 1879 along with the help of Dr. A.F. Beddoe, who according to the book, assisted Father Buckner “in the formative period of that institution.” Beddoe married R.C.’s daughter, Addie, and the two lived out their years helping children in need.

Regarding Addie, the book reads: “Being a good mother to her own children, she readily entered into the spirit and life of the many orphans in her charge, comforting them in their sorrows, caring for them in their afflictions and rejoicing with them in their joys.

Little and Jones donated the book at the request of their mother, who being a Beddoe herself, had custody of the treasure until her recent death.

“We are so honored by this donation,” said Jill Lewis, development officer for Buckner Foundation. “Buckner has such a rich history of men and women who sacrificed to help needy children, and this book only further shows that love that the Beddoe family shared with Father Buckner. This book will be treasured for years to come.”
