Buckner Children and Family Services of North Texas hosted its third annual Back to School Bash Aug. 5 for students preparing for the upcoming school year. The event drew more than 200 students and their families for a day of food, fun and school supplies for the new school year.
“The day was a great way to kick off a new school year and end the summer,” said Henry Jackson, director of residential services. “The kids had a great time and really enjoy being outside.”
More than 35 volunteers were on hand to assist with the event. Volunteers helped with preparing school supplies to be dispersed, games, serving food and face painting.
“The volunteers really do so much to help with the event,” said Magen Bunyard, volunteer coordinator. “They just love to jump in and interact with the children. It really is exciting for them to see how excited each child is when they receive a backpack full of supplies.”
At the event, children received a backpack and supplies appropriate for their grade. This ensured that the children will go back to school feeling like they have everything the other children have and not feel different or left out, Jackson said.
Buckner collected the supplies from numerous businesses, churches and individuals including, EMC Mortage, SafeCo Insurance, The Republic Group, Valero Energy, White Rock Elementary School, Katelyn Bryant, Corporate Express and Citywide Entertainment Group. Buckner wants to thank all of these individuals and groups for their help with sending the children back to school.
“We are so thankful to the community for their support,” Jackson said. “We really enjoy this day and look forward to another great school year.”
