Buckner Clinic Services
Buckner Clinic plays a vital role in fulfilling the mission of Buckner of "protecting children, promoting independence, and building strong families." By promoting healthy habits, preventing sickness, and restoring health, Buckner Clinic is making profound and lasting difference in the lives of hurting children living on our campus and/or with Buckner Foster Care. Following is a summary of Buckner Clinic services:

Medical Treatment
Many children come to Buckner in poor health with both acute and chronic medical conditions. Many of these medical conditions are a result of abuse and neglect. On-site medical services enable Buckner to immediately provide the high quality of medical care these children need. Services include physical examinations; medical needs assessments, sick-child visits, immunizations, first aid, laboratory services, psychological, and psychiatric consultations are made to community medical professionals when needed.

Psychiatric Treatment
Many of the children served by Buckner experience serious psychological damage as a result of their abuse and neglect. Being able to provide psychiatric services to these children is vital in addressing their overall health. Psychiatrists provide on-campus psychiatric evaluations and on-going medication management.

Mi Esquelita
A historic local program for children and families and an innovative early childhood preschool entered a partnership May 27 that leaders from both organizations say will change young lives through language. Buckner Children and Family Services of North Texas and Mi Escuelita Preschool signed the agreement during a ceremony at the Dr. J.C. and Meriam Calabria Community Center on the campus of Buckner Children’s Home, creating Mi Escuelita Preschool at Buckner.

Mi Escuelita Preschool at Buckner provides language-based, early childhood education on the historic Buckner Children’s Home campus at the John and Elaine Gabbert Center for Education. Continue reading...

Specialized Medical Treatment
At times, child experiences medical difficulties that are best addressed by a medical provider with a specific area of expertise. When this occurs, Buckner Clinic arranges for the child to see a provider within the community. The clinic not only pays for this care when no other sources of funds are available, but also acts as a liaison between the community provider and the child's medical treatment at Buckner.

Educational Services
Each new Buckner employee and foster parent that will be working with children must take Medication Training and Psychotropic Medication Training annually. The clinic also provides on-going staff training on medical topics and on-going health education programs for children.
