After School Program The Buckner After School Program opened October 16, 1997 as a partnership between Buckner Children and Family Services and South Main Baptist Church. The program provides a safe, fun place for school children of all ages during the afternoon hours. Most of the children coming into the program live in the inner city neighborhood surrounding the facility. Staff and volunteers make the program work by providing much needed companionship and direction during those afternoon hours when boredom is high and adult supervision is low. The staff and volunteers also assist the children with homework, computer skills, sports, activities and building positive relationships.
