S.E.E.K.: Students Empowering Exceptional Kids

Description:
S.E.E.K. is an after-school program that provides services during the school year. Camp S.E.E.K. provides services during the summer.

S.E.E.K. after school and Camp S.E.E.K. are programs led and facilitated by Junior and High School students under the supervision of Buckner staff. Area youth from the 79415 community are recruited and trained as facilitators for the after school and summer camp program. Our emphasis is to deliver character education training to those who serve as youth leaders and assist them in facilitating groups to an audience of students, kindergarten through sixth grade. Activity stations might include crafts, snacks, games, skits, and tutoring/mentoring. Youth facilitate activities and teach life skills. An example of these skills might focus on safety, cultural awareness and diversity, responsibility, respect, caring, kindness, and trustworthiness.

Purpose:
The program’s purpose is to provide activities to support the prevention and reduction of juvenile crime. This program will provide a safe place for youth.

Target Area:
Youth living in the 79415 zip code or youth that attend the following elementary schools: Tubbs, Wolffarth, Jackson, McWhorter, and Cavazos.
