After the Fire
While all family members escaped unhurt from the fire that burned their home, Jesus and Damiana Pena’s house was destroyed by the blaze. Buckner Border Ministries and Buckner volunteers responded to the family’s needs instantly.

“It was a relief,” said Jesus. “We started having hope that we could rebuild again. Buckner helped us buy the materials for the roof, provided us with clothing and furniture and sent men to help us finish the roof on the house. Without Buckner, our family would still be struggling.”

The Pena’s home was one of 52 home or church construction sites saved by Buckner last year. In 2005, Buckner Border Ministries helped channel the efforts of 1,866 volunteers representing 177 mission groups and organizations into providing 64,460 hours of volunteer work.

As a result, 37,807 people were served and 437 of those found a life with Christ. The volunteers provided construction, Vacation Bible Schools, sports camps, block parties, 53 medical or dental clinics, and clothing and food distribution points.
