Buckner Border Ministries: An Experience to Share
Soon after the first of the year, our long time friends Tom and Nancy Barnes asked Bill and me if we would like to go with them to South Texas on a Mission trip.  As Tom explained their plans, we immediately knew this was something we needed to do.

To say that the past few months have been difficult ones for all of us at the Rio Grande Children’s Home and Buckner Children and Family Services is a great understatement. For me, it has been difficult and very exciting at the same time.

Playing in the front yard of their parents’ cinder-block home, Luis, 6, and his 2-year-old brother, Omar, fly down fanciful freeways unhindered in their big blue plastic toy car. The universal little-boy noises of revving engines and tires squealing in acceleration fill their minds’ eye?as well as their mother’s ears. That’s fantasy.

As needs along the Rio Grande River grow, so does the commitment of Buckner.
It is a short walk across the international bridge spanning the Rio Grande River. Here, the border separates two towns with the same name, but the bridge connects them.
